Over the next few days Harry and Anne tried their best to avoid each other. This became easier when Harry’s lessons started and gave him a perfect excuse to be out of the house as much as possible.

Harry had decided to take Economics at University. Harry’s first love was his music and he dreamed of becoming a world renowned musician. But he was realistic, even if he was as talented as people said, he might never make it big. He felt it was wise to invest in his education, so he had something to fall back on, in case his music could only ever be a hobby.

Harry was determined to enjoy his University life to the full. Unlike his brother, Harry was very social and it didn’t take him long to make a host of new friends.  There were so many parties and gatherings at the beginning of term, he found he didn’t have to spend any evening in, unless he wanted to.

After the first few weeks, Harry felt that it was time to try and remove the awkwardness between him and Anne, if that was possible. He still felt uncomfortable after how she had humiliated him, but as they lived in the same house, avoiding her forever was not an option. Harry wasn’t sure if he wanted to be Anne’s friend after what had happened and yet he knew he still cared for her and wanted to be near her.

So when Harry entered the library and saw Anne and her friend hard at work, a short struggle ensued before he decided to go and say hello. Perhaps with a third person, it would be less awkward.

Melissa who had looked up from her notes hoping for inspiration, suddenly said “Now he is fit, I wonder who he is? He seems to be coming this way.” Anne looked up and blushed, answering “That’s Harry, Timothy’s brother.” Melissa looked surprised and asked incredulously “Your friend, who kissed you? And you let him slip through your fingers?”

Melissa added quickly, with a mischievous smile and a lowered voice “Well if you don’t want him, can I have him?” just as Harry reached the desk. Anne replied by glaring at her friend, who ignored her and Anne turned her attention to Harry. “Hi” said Harry

“Hi” replied Anne and after Melissa had nudged her under the table she continued “This is Melissa, Melissa this is Harry.” They smiled at each other and Melissa asked

“Are you going to Sarah’s party on Friday? Everyone is talking about it.”

“I wouldn’t miss it, are you both going?” he asked, trying to sound unconcerned. Anne, feeling uncomfortable, replied “I have a lot of studying to do, I am not sure I will make it.”

“Oh, okay” replied Harry and Melissa jumped in “Well I wouldn’t miss it, hope to see you there.” She gave him a big smile, which he tried to return and he said goodbye. As soon as he was out of earshot Melissa asked “What’s the matter with you? I thought you were looking forward to the party?” Anne shrugged, refusing to look up from her books, her cheeks still uncomfortably hot and Melissa continued. “Fine, well I’ll go and get to know this Harry of yours then.”

Anne stood up in a sudden passion and raising her voice answered “Just leave him alone, okay.” She picked up her books and stormed off, leaving behind a very confused Melissa.
